Webex for Developers at Cisco Live 2022
June 28, 2022With Cisco Live 2022 in Las Vegas behind us, we are excited to report that Cisco DevNet and Webex for Developers teamed up and showcased some exciting things happening with Webex. On Wednesday, June 15th, Webex took over the DevNet Zone and presented a capstone talk (DEVNET-1605) which highlighted how Webex enables development partners to contribute to the hybrid experience. These Partners have innovated through Embedded Apps, Integrations, Webex Calling Integrations and Bots, to help enhance the Webex experience.
Embedded Apps and Laxis, Inc.
The Webex Embedded Apps Framework gives developers an easy way to integrate an existing web application into Webex Meetings and Spaces. Webex users can collaborate with each other in real time during a Webex meeting or in an ongoing fashion in Webex Spaces. Embedded Apps can be categorized within a Webex user organization as Private Apps or Public Apps. Private Apps are available only to the user organization that the app builder’s developer account belongs to. Private Apps allow developers to build completely unique and custom apps to be used in meetings and spaces. Public Apps are available to all Webex customers. Public Apps are submitted to the Webex Developer Support Review Team for approval to be listed on the Webex App Hub for public consumption. Both app types must be approved by IT Admins for use within a Webex user organization.
AI Meeting Assistant by Laxis, Inc.
At Cisco Live, Laxis AI shared their experience developing AI Meeting Assistant using the Embedded App Framework. This App enables Webex users to employ personalized templates to take notes, highlight key moments, and share insights from remote and hybrid meetings. This real time note taking functionality leads to more engagement, better productivity, and deeper insights into things happening in a Webex meeting.
Integrations and Kaltura
A Webex Embedded App allows developers to bring their applications to the Webex client. An integration gives developers a way to bring Webex technology to custom technology. A developer can implement the OAuth 2 grant flow to give third party applications permission to invoke the Webex REST API on behalf of a Webex user. Once this permission is granted, applications can programmatically access API endpoints responsible for many Webex Meetings, Messages, Calling, Admin and Compliance tasks. A Webex Integration can be listed on the Webex App Hub for public consumption after the Developer Support Review process.
Kaltura Smart Archiving
Kaltura’s Smart Archiving integration makes Webex recordings automatically become part of an organization’s central media repository. There, recorded content becomes accessible by Kaltura’s video editing features like trimming, clipping, captioning and advanced enrichment. Then the integration makes this content sharable on internal and external video portals for enhanced knowledge sharing and enablement.
Webex Calling and Infortel Select
Webex Calling provides users with advanced telephony services. The calling APIs provide an interface for some features to be available through third party integrations. These available features include Webex Calling provisioning, Reporting, and Call Controls.
Infortel Select Webex Calling Support
The Infortel Webex Calling support integration makes an organization’s call accounting and analytics program migration to the cloud simple with continuous visibility into calls and reports. The integration provides critical Call Detail Record reporting and custom business function reporting with a unified dashboard approach.
Webex Bots with Moveworks
Webex Bots are like Webex Users. Bots are registered in the Webex Developer Portal and are assigned an access token that can be used for making Webex REST API calls on behalf of the bot. The bot can then access messages that are sent to them directly, join and engage in Webex Spaces, and respond to events with adaptive cards and buttons. A bot can be a notifier, a controller, or an assistant. Developers can use many kinds of bot frameworks to build the bot along with calls implementing the Webex REST API.
The Moveworks Bot
The Moveworks Bot can automatically resolve an organizations employee request through conversational AI. The bot engages employees directly in Webex and increases operational efficiency. This is an excellent addition to IT and HR tool sets for providing resolutions and solutions to employees in seconds.
